Weekend Two

This Friday evening begins our second weekend of performances of Winter Wonderland.  Our hard working, beautiful dancers are joined by our guests, Michelle Joy and Gregory Brown.  We had a warm up class and rehearsal last night, and it looks like we are ready to go!

Tickets are all sold out, but if we get enough interest, we will add a showing of Act 2 on Sunday at 2:30.  Call, message or email me if you are interested and we will keep you updated via facebook or this page.

Thank you everyone for your support, and thank you to all the dancers who are making this happen.

Publicity release

WINTER WONDERLAND PUBLICITY

SoHum Dancing is pleased to offer this year’s holiday ballet, Winter Wonderland.  Our ballet has two acts, act 1 featuring the younger dancers in Mother Ginger’s Sweet Shoppe and act 2 presenting our pre-teen, teen and adult dancer in an outdoor winter setting.  The show will be full of cookies, little mice stealing cookies, chocolate soldiers trying to protect the cookies, snowflakes, snow fairies and ice skaters!

Our talented cast includes students ages 2 to 65, as well as our teachers. Both Natalie Gage and Nina Tillman will be performing alongside their students in act 1, and as ice skaters in act 2.  Alisa Dillon-Ogden, a former Feet First student and dancer who has returned home while taking a break from her professional dance career, will be joining us in act 2.  Alisa has also been an invaluable aid as rehearsal mistress. She brings her well-trained eye and extensive experience as a professional dancer and pilates trainer into the studio, working many miracles.

In addition to our local cast, on the second weekend we will have the pleasure of being joined by two young professional dancers from New York City, Michelle Joy, and Gregory Brown.  Each of the dancers has provided us with their bios:

Michelle Joy is originally from Arcata, California where she began her dance training at The Dancers Studio.  She was later selected to attend Houston Ballet Academy on a full merit scholarship.  Throughout her career she has danced in professional ballet companies including: Colorado Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, American Repertory Ballet and The Metropolitan Opera Ballet.  She has also performed in the International Tour of Phantom of the Opera.  As a guest artist she as danced throughout the United States, Australia, Japan, and Indonesia..  .

Gregory Brown was born and raised in Bloomington Illinois.  He began his dance training with Twin Cities School of Dance and Ballet in a production of The Nutcracker at the age of twelve.  Gregory was awarded a full scholarship to The Houston Ballet Ben Stevenson Academy, where he met Michelle .There he danced with Houston Ballet II and American Ballet Theater Summer Intensive.  With Texas Ballet Theater he danced corps, soloist, and principal roles until 2008 when he moved to New York City to freelance. Since then he has performed with The Metropolitan Opera, Radio City Christmas Spectacular and has taught, and studied around the country.

The show is being offered over two weekends, both to accommodate our audiences and to present our special guest dancers during the second weekend.

Tickets!….and more…..

Making a change of plans, ticket sales will start this Monday, Dec. 2 at the studio.  You will be able to purchase your tickets at classes and rehearsals.  The cost is $10 per ticket.  In order to do our best to accommodate all of our dancers’ families, we are asking for a few considerations:

Initial ticket sales will be limited to a maximum of 4 tickets per family.  At the dress rehearsal on Monday, Dec.9, we will open up ticket sales without this limitation.

If you are only planning to stay for Act 1, when the younger dancers are performing, we ask that you please purchase your tickets for the first weekend of performances, Dec. 13 and 14.  We would like to have as many seats available for those wishing to see our guest performers dance in the second act the second weekend.

There will be a brief intermission after act 1, when parents who are watching the show will be able to retrieve their act 1 dancer to sit with them for act 2.  At this point, the dancers from act 1 may also go home, as they are done performing.

We will do our very best to assure that everyone who wants to see the show will be able to.  We are working on our connections with Harry Potter and friends to create an expandable theater for us!

Thanks to the inspiration of some of our adult dancers and the generosity of Tranquility Lane Flowers, we will be making bouquets available to present to your dancer, for a small donation.  This is a new project and we hope to have enough for everyone that needs one.
