Parent Helpers

PARENT HELPERS
We will need parent helpers for a variety of jobs to help make the performance week go smoothly. Following are some of the projects that we will need help with:
Backstage: we will need some moms to be backstage each night of dress rehearsal and performances to assist the dancers when they are not on stage. The most important aspect is to ensure that dancers are safe and behaving quietly so as not to disturb the audience.
Bake sale: Each day we will need bakers to bring goodies. We will need a parent to assist with the bake sale table before the performances. This job will also encompass handling the bouquet and tee shirt sales.
Bouquets: We will need a parent to assemble a small group of people to make bouquets for each performance. Arrangements will be made ahead of time with Tranquility Lane Flowers for supplies.
Proceeds from these projects go towards the scholarship fund and enrichment programs, for activities such as workshops or guest teachers.
Set up and clean up: We will need a few adults to assist with setting up before, and cleaning up after, the shows.
Feet First dance floor. We will be borrowing the rolled vinyl flooring from Feet First. Getting this to and from the theater will require a covered pick-up truck and 2 or 3 guys( without back problems).
A sign-up sheet will be posted soon.

All students may use basic pink or black ballet warm ups as necessitated by the weather/studio conditions, for warming up and the first exercise and for cooling down. Sparkle sweaters are NOT permitted!

Female students in grades 1 and up may purchase a ballet skirt in matching tones to their leotard for use during certain situations such as Observation Days or a designated “skirt day.” The studio also has some skirts available.

All students must wear appropriate undergarments as needed based on age/ gender/ development. It is highly recommended that all female students purchase an “undertard” (my name) to wear under costumes which might be itchy. All bras and undies must be in a nude/ skin tone and not visible outside of leotards. Male students and their parents may consult with Kevin of Threadbare Dancewear regarding appropriate under garments.

All character shoes and skirts are provided by the studio.

Decisions about RAD exam wear will be made mid-year when decisions are being made about students’ participation. This may require extra purchases.

Please let your dancer’s teacher know if purchase expenses are out of your budget and we will do our best to make needed items available. We have a small selection of laundered “hand me downs” available and encourage the sharing of dance wear that your child may have outgrown.

Grooming
Please be sure that you/ your dancer is groomed appropriately for ballet class.

Females: long hair must be neatly pulled back from the face, pre-primary levels and above must have hair in a bun, or short hair well clipped back, bangs off of forehead. Do not use a plastic headband as they fall off. Buns must be properly secured with hairpins and hairnet, NOT with a hair tie or scrunchy!

Males: Hair must be neatly groomed off of the face, use gel if needed

Jewelry is not permitted for class or performances. The exception is small stud earrings for class if desired.

Appropriate make up will be needed for performances, depending on age and role being danced, (such as lipstick for the youngest dancers, and light general make up for older dancers). Make up is discouraged for class.

Storage drawers
Storage drawers are available for dancers from the pre-primary level and up. They may be used for slippers, character shoes, hair things, warm ups, and an extra set of clean dancewear. All worn dancewear and school clothes must be taken home after each class in order to keep the dressing room from smelling like a gym locker! These drawers are not to be used for private items as teachers may periodically check the drawers in case character shoes need to be shared or missing costume items located.

Classwear

Keep a look out for a new post about dancewear items students will be needing. Kevin, from Threadbare Dancewear will be at the studio Monday, September 15 at 2pm, till 5pm, with all of the items your dancer will be needing for class. If you cannot make it, please stop by his store in Arcata as soon as possible.

RAD photo contest!

We are going to enter this year’s RAD photo contest, “Dancing at your favorite landmark.”  If you would like to join us for the photo shoot, we plan to meet this Friday in Rockefeller Forest around 10 am.  Wear solid colors, bring a few outfits….we may want a few forest fairies…and dance with us in the redwoods.

Natalie will let me know the details after she checks things out a little more tomorrow.  Stay posted for updates!
